Designed by renowned artisan Mashiro Yamada, this fountain pen is a breathtaking celebration of love, serenity, and tradition. Inspired by the mythical Rakucho—phoenix-like birds said to soar through a heavenly paradise and symbolize peace—it features two of these elegant creatures representing eternal love and a happy marriage. Rendered using the traditional Togidashi Taka Maki-e technique, the Rakucho are depicted in vibrant color and textured detail as they fly gracefully among weeping cherry blossom branches. The background mimics the deep, charcoal-toned texture of cherry blossom bark, achieved through Oh-hi-nuri, a complex form of Kawari-nuri never before seen on Namiki’s Maki-e pens. Delicate cherry blossom petals, inlaid with shimmering mother-of-pearl and polished to a radiant finish, complete this exceptional work of art.

 

The Emperor Collection is Namiki's highest ranking series, representing the pinnacle of artistry, tradition, and luxury. Each pen is made from ebonite and fitted with a massive No. 50 (Jumbo) 18k gold nib, reminiscent of Namiki’s historic Maki-e pens from a century ago. The collection includes two types of pens: one without a clip, allowing you to enjoy the design uninterrupted around the entire barrel, and one with a clip for added functionality. It fills via eyedropper and includes an ink stopping mechanism for precise ink flow.
