TACCIA Miyabi Fountain Pen - Wajima Azure Wave - Limited Edition

TACCIA Miyabi Fountain Pen - Wajima Azure Wave - Limited Edition

In crafting the TACCIA Miyabi Wajima Azure Wave fountain pen, the maki-e artist uses the exquisite Kawari Nuri technique, infusing it with captivating blue hues. The Kawari-Nuri is a technique that dates back to the early 17th centuries, originating from the innovative experimentation with diverse material and structures.

This TACCIA Miyabi fountain pen has urushi lacquer in a speckled pattern, with accents of gold, and is accented by gold trim. The airtight cushion seal cap allows for a snug closure. Each limited edition fountain pen is individually numbered out of 20 on the bottom of the barrel.

Wajima had long been the center of lacquerware production. Wajima lacquerware has illustrated craftsmanship and has flourished since the Edo period. It is distinguished by its rich foundation and decorative embellishments that promise both aesthetic and functional excellence. It has continued to evolve while maintaining its traditions.

Each fountain pen is made by hand in Taccia's urushi studio on Wajima, Japan, using traditional inlay techniques enhanced with precious metals and lacquer. To blend the old with the new, each fountain pen comes fitted with an 18k gold nib made by Sailor in Japan along with an individually polished, lightweight yet durable ebonite barrel. The cushion screw cap closure allows for an airtight seal that prevents the pen from drying out. Each series is limited and signed by the maki-e artisan who created it, truly emphasizing the tradition of craftsmanship.

In 2024, an earthquake struck the area of Japan near Wajima, greatly affecting the area's local artisans and urushi artists. As the region continues to rebuild after this natural disaster, urushi works from Wajima are still sparse and highly valued due to their limited quantities.
